The atmosphere at Edmund Hall was more like a festival than a legal meeting this past Tuesday, March 31st. Citizens from Hwange, Victoria Falls, Dete, and surrounding areas gathered in large numbers to share their views on the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3.

Instead of tense debates, the hall was filled with singing and dancing as locals expressed their strong support for the proposed changes.

For many who attended, the hearing was an opportunity to thank the government for visible improvements in their lives. The message from the crowd was clear: results matter more than political arguments.

Mr Forgiveness Nengu praised the improved condition of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road and noted that “there is no loadshedding in Zimbabwe,” highlighting a more stable power supply.

A local youth representative spoke passionately about how Hwange has changed for the better. “We now have a Teacher’s College and a passport office right here in Hwange,” he said, noting that these services previously required long travels.

A student leader urged the community to stay focused on growth, stating, “We should talk about development, not politics.”As the hearing progressed, many speakers argued that the current leadership should be allowed to continue their work. One resident captured the mood of the room by saying the leadership must be given a full chance to “deliver the country” and finish the projects they have started.

The hearing was attended by a diverse delegation of Members of Parliament and Senators from various committees, including Justice, Local Government, and Youth Affairs. They listened as resident after resident stood up to support the Bill.

By the time the meeting ended, the formal consultation had turned into a full-scale celebration. The high turnout from neighboring towns showed a united front in favor of the Amendment, with many leaving the hall feeling optimistic about the future of Matabeleland North and the nation at large.
