ZAPIA came together with ZANU PF delegates and community leaders on March 24 at Lwendulo for an important meeting aimed at raising awareness about the Constitutional Amendment Bill and encouraging community participation.

The meeting focused on two important matters: President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 and the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which seeks to change certain parts of the Constitution.

The dialogue was led by Dr. Clement Mukawusi, a lawyer who provided an in-depth breakdown of the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. His presentation focused on the legal nuances of the bill, highlighting its key points and what citizens needed to know regarding its potential impact.

Following the legal analysis, Comrade Margret Mpofu, the Vice National Chair Lady, called for robust grassroots engagement, stressing that citizen participation is vital for the success of national programs. Honourable Beef elaborated on how the Bill is expected to impact local communities. While DDC Chairman Comrade Muleya and Provincial Lady Patience Kashire added their perspectives on the importance of unity and mobilization.

During the question-and-answer session, community engagement took center stage. One community member sought clarity regarding the mechanics of the presidential term, specifically asking how the seven-year term works in relation to Section 95 of the Constitution.

In response, the delegates and legal experts present explained that discussions surrounding the amendment seek to align the country’s electoral cycle with governance stability. The dialogue emphasized that such provisions are designed to ensure continuity in development projects under the Vision 2030 agenda.

The meeting concluded with a strong call to action for ZAPIA members and residents. The key takeaway was an urgent appeal for attendees to support the bill by participating in the upcoming public meeting scheduled for the 31st of this month in Hwange at Colliery.

ZAPIA members were tasked with mobilizing their neighbors and spreading awareness about the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 within their networks to ensure that citizens remain informed and involved in the legislative process.

In addition to the constitutional discussions, the gathering also served as an opportunity for community empowerment. ZAPIA organized a training session for local women focused on practical skills, including how to make soap and detergents. While the training was well received, time constraints meant it could not be completed. However, organizers promised to return and finish the training to ensure the women gain the full benefit of the skills development program.
