Hwange Local Board Chairperson Councillor Peterson Ncube has on 11.09.2025 called on residents to unite in the fight against drug and substance abuse, which he described as a threat to the very fabric of the community. In a statement to Hwange Local Board residents, Cllr Ncube emphasised the need for collective responsibility, particularly around safeguarding the wellbeing of children.
“As we navigate the complexities of our community, it’s imperative that we address a challenge that threatens the very fabric of our society: drug and substance abuse. This menace has taken hold with an intensity and ferocity that demands our collective attention and action,” said Cllr Ncube.
He noted that every child in Hwange is at risk, either directly or indirectly, from the dangers of substance abuse, and called upon adults to adopt a proactive role in protecting youth. “We must be collectively responsible for our children,” stressed Cllr Ncube. “It’s time for us to take ownership of our community’s youth, to treat every child as our own, and to safeguard them from the dangers of substance abuse.”
Cllr Ncube urged residents not to turn a blind eye to signs of substance abuse and called for vigilance and community action.
“Take action, report it, and let’s work together to create a safer environment for our children,”he said
