Hwange FC have been crowned 2026 Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League champions after beating Bulawayo Warriors FC 1-0 at White City Stadium on Saturday, securing automatic promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Shawn Chabika scored the decisive goal in the first half to hand Hwange victory and confirm their return to Zimbabwe’s top-flight football league.
The win takes Hwange to 76 points after 33 matches, putting them beyond the reach of their closest challengers, Talen Vision FC, who have 72 points, and Jordan FC, who sit third with 69 points.
Hwange coach Njabulo Dube said the journey to the championship had not been easy, with the team experiencing both good and difficult moments throughout the season.
“It has not been easy for the team. We had our good and bad moments,” said Dube.
The coach expressed his happiness at winning the league and acknowledged the role played by the competitive nature of the Southern Region league in shaping the campaign.
“I am very, very happy. I appreciate all the coaches in the Southern Region. It has really been very competitive,” he said.
Hwange’s triumph marks a significant achievement for the club, which was relegated from the Premier Soccer League in November 2024.
The championship and subsequent promotion represent a return to the top flight after nearly two years away, giving the coal mining town reason to celebrate.
