The Government has officially commissioned the Kasambabezi Border Post in Binga District, marking a major step towards improving safe cross-border travel, boosting trade and promoting inclusive development between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi officially opened the border post on Friday, 24 July 2026, saying the project demonstrates the Government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches every part of the country.
The Kasambabezi Border Post links Binga District with neighbouring Zambia and is expected to improve the movement of people and goods while reducing illegal and unsafe border crossings that many residents previously relied on.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Vice President Mohadi said the project is part of the Government’s efforts to unlock economic opportunities and improve the lives of communities living in border areas.
Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo, said the commissioning was more than the opening of a new border facility.
“This event is about reaffirming the Government’s commitment to inclusive development that leaves no one and no place behind,” he said.
Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, said construction of the border post began in October last year and was completed in May this year.
He said the project addresses the long-standing challenge of illegal border crossings by providing a safe and legal point of entry and exit for travellers.
The Kasambabezi Border Post is expected to strengthen trade between Zimbabwe and Zambia, improve border security and create new economic opportunities for communities in Binga and surrounding areas.
