Mssing bag belonging to Zimbabwean musician Baba Harare sparked widespread public attention last week after he alleged that Ethiopian Airlines had misplaced his luggage, prompting hundreds of Zimbabweans to demand answers from the airline on social media.
The musician revealed on his official Facebook page that his bag went missing on his way back to Zimbabwe. He explained that the missing luggage contained newly acquired filming equipment, which he was expected to use for a project scheduled for 1 August.
According to Baba Harare, Ethiopian Airlines has been his preferred airline for the past three years, making the incident particularly disappointing.”As far as I know, the bag is now in transit to Harare. I will only celebrate once it arrives. Thank you Zimbabwe for standing with me,” he posted after receiving an update that the luggage had been located.
Before that development, Baba Harare had publicly criticised the airline’s handling of the matter. In another Facebook post, he alleged that Ethiopian Airlines was deleting comments from the “Jiti family”, instead of addressing the complaint.”That’s not how you manage a complaint or a crisis. You engage the customer and make things right. Until a resolution is reached, people will continue to flock your page,” he wrote.
His posts triggered widespread public support, with hundreds of Zimbabweans flooding Ethiopian Airlines’ Facebook page, demanding that the airline locate and return what many affectionately referred to as the “Jiti bag.” The incident quickly gained traction online, with fans expressing concern over the loss of the musician’s valuable equipment ahead of his upcoming commitments.
By the end of last week, Baba Harare announced that he had been informed the luggage had been found and was being transported to Harare.
