Learners at Malunku Primary School in Lupane now have better learning conditions following the official commissioning of a new classroom block and a piped water system ealier this week.
The projects were officially commissioned by Hon. R. Moyo and were made possible through a partnership between the Government of Zimbabwe, World Vision and the Mabhikwa Area Programme.
For many years, children at Malunku Primary School learned under difficult conditions. Classrooms were overcrowded, while some pupils had lessons under trees because there was not enough classroom space.The new classroom block will provide a safe and comfortable learning environment, helping teachers deliver lessons more effectively and allowing learners to focus on their studies.
Better learning facilities are expected to improve the quality of education and encourage more children to attend school.
The newly commissioned piped water system is another important development for the school and the surrounding community. For many years, residents had to travel long distances to collect water.The new water supply will provide clean and reliable water for both the school and nearby households.
It is expected to improve health and hygiene, support better nutrition, and make it easier for the school to maintain nutrition gardens and other agricultural projects that benefit learners.
One of the spokespersons for Malunku Ward said it is now the responsibility of the community to take ownership of the newly commissioned projects and protect them for future generations. They urged residents to guard these saying the facilities are valuable community assets that will benefit learners, families and future generations if they are properly maintained.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. R. Moyo highlighted the importance of investing in education and access to clean water, saying such projects improve people’s lives and support community development.
The partnership between the Government and development organisations demonstrates how working together can bring lasting benefits to rural communities in Matabeleland North.
