WEEKEND SPORTS REVIEWBY LOMQHELE NXUMALO

The weekend was full of action in both football and netball. There were big wins, young playersshowing their skills, and a netball event to help the Hwange community.

There were several exciting football matches in the Pacific Storm league. Bulawayo City started
strong with a 3-0 win over Hwange. Nkayi and Talent Vision played to a 2-2 draw. Casymine
beat Zebra Revolutions 2-0.


Jordan’s North and Kami also drew 1-1.
One of the most impressive performances came from Meggawatt, who beat Aqua Stars 2-0.
Both goals came from young players; Clive Phiri, also known as “Mane,” scored in the first half,
and Ashley Tembu, who came up from the junior ranks, added the second. Mega Ward showed
a lot of talent. The team had many young players. Linkon one if the young stars played well in
midfield. The team played well even though the ground was waterlogged.


Blackrock was awarded a 3-0 walkover win after Mbizo did not show up for their match.
The game between Bulawayo Warriors and Njuzi was cancelled.


On Sunday, Bosso 90 lost an entertaining match to Vic Falls Herentals, with the final score 3-2.
Despite the loss, the game was praised for the talent shown by the Bosso 90 side.
Moving on to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), there were several exciting results:
Agama United drew 1-1 with Dynamos
Scotland won 3-0 against Hunters
MWOS edged out Bulawayo Chiefs 2-1
ZPC Kariba beat Manica Diamonds 2-0
CAPS United defeated Haardrock FC 2-0
Telone FC and FC Platinum played to a 2-2 draw
Khama Billiat continued his excellent form, scoring two goals during the week and another two
over the weekend, making him the current top goal scorer.


Some players have pulled out of the Warriors squad because of injuries. Knowledge Musona,
Tawanda Maswanhise, Prince Dube, and Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya will not play. Other players
from different teams have been brought in to replace them.


There is good news for Mongameli Tshuma from Hwange. He will play for the Bulawayo
Warriors this coming Wednesday, the 25th of March 2026.

Over in netball, the Hwange netball social tournament was held on Saturday morning at the old
ground. The event was part of a wellness campaign.
Results:
Blue Bird defeated Lwendulu 15-6
Hwange Colliery Company beat Blue Bird 12-10
Bluebird won against Mpumalanga 10-4

Final Standings:

  4. Teacher’s College
  5. Victoria Falls
  6. Mpumalanga

    Sports Director Ms. Mutungwa explained the purpose of the tournament, saying it was a
    wellness campaign to help young girls stay off the streets and fight drug abuse. She promised
    that they would continue to organize games like these to motivate others.

    A special mention goes to the Hwange teams, who performed well over the weekend and were
    all able to secure three points in their matches.

On the track, Team Zimbabwe also made the nation proud with a strong performance at the
Maseru International Meet on Saturday. The team won the men’s 4x400m relay, finishing with a
time of 03:03.55s.


It was a successful weekend for Zimbabwean sports. In football, fans enjoyed exciting matches,
young stars like those from Meggawatt showed great promise, and teams like Hwange made
their supporters proud. In netball, the Hwange social tournament proved that sports can also
bring communities together for a good cause.
