Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo is touring schools in Matabeleland North to assess learning infrastructure and challenges affecting disadvantaged schools in the province.
Moyo toured schools in the province on Wednesday, including Coalfields primary school in Hwange District.
The Minister said the tour was mainly focused on disadvantaged schools, particularly in Binga, where several satellite schools are yet to be registered with the Ministry.
“We are in Matabeleland North where we are touring schools. We are targeting the most disadvantaged schools, especially in Binga district. We are making an assessment and evaluation of the state of our infrastructure and comparing the results that were produced by these disadvantaged schools,” said Moyo.
The assessment will also look at whether schools have adequate infrastructure and identify areas that need improvement, including additional classrooms, science laboratories and computers.
The Minister said the exercise would help the Ministry understand the challenges facing schools and determine the support required to improve the learning environment.Moyo will wrap up his provincial tour today, Thursday, with an engagement with school heads from across Matabeleland North.The meeting is expected to give school heads an opportunity to update the Ministry on challenges affecting their schools, while the Government will also outline its priorities for the new school term.
