Zimbabwean beauty queen Brunette Makanyiso has given the country a moment to celebrate after making it into the Top 12 at the 73rd Miss World competition held in Vietnam.
The 26-year-old represented Zimbabwe against contestants from 111 countries, carrying the country’s hopes onto one of the world’s biggest beauty stages.
Makanyiso’s Miss World journey began on June 6, when she was crowned Miss World Zimbabwe. Her victory earned her the opportunity to represent the country at the international competition.
In Vietnam, she quickly made her presence felt through the different stages of the competition.
One of her strongest performances came in the Beauty With a Purpose challenge, where she emerged as one of the Top Two contestants. Her achievement in the challenge placed her among the leading contestants and helped her progress further in the competition.
She also competed in the Top Model challenge, giving her another opportunity to showcase her confidence, modelling skills and presence on the international stage.
Makanyiso eventually secured a place in the Top 12, becoming one of the contestants who remained in contention as the competition entered its final stages.
Although she did not advance to the final six, her performance was still a significant achievement for Zimbabwe.
The Miss World crown was eventually won by Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic, who was crowned at the grand finale in Vietnam.
For Zimbabwe, Brunette’s achievement goes beyond the final result. Her journey has placed Zimbabwean beauty and modelling talent before an international audience while showing that local contestants can compete confidently on the global stage.
Her progress will inspire young Zimbabweans interested in modelling and beauty competitions to pursue their ambitions and take opportunities that can expose them to the wider world.
From being crowned Miss World Zimbabwe in June to reaching the Top 12 at Miss World, Makanyiso has had a memorable run. She may not have returned with the Miss World crown, but she has returned with an achievement that Zimbabwe can proudly celebrate.
