Zimbabwe is expected to experience strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning in some areas from Friday evening to Monday, September 7, 2026. The Meteorological Services Department (MSD), working with the Department of Civil Protection, issued the advisory on Friday, warning of a high chance of strong winds across the country.
The warning covers Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland, Masvingo, Harare Metropolitan and the Mashonaland provinces. According to the MSD, thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in some areas, with Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo at greater risk of lightning.
On Saturday, parts of the country are expected to experience cloudy and cold conditions, with light rain or drizzle possible in areas such as Chipinge, Chiredzi, Chimanimani and Nyanga.
strong winds and rain could affect crops that are at the grain-filling and maturity stages.The MSD warned that rain during this period could reduce grain quality, while increased moisture may raise the risk of fungal diseases.
Farmers have been advised to use row covers and windbreaks, while livestock owners should provide animals with adequate shelter, bedding and feed.The public has also been urged to secure loose items, repair damaged rooftops and trim hanging branches.
