Re-Pegging Signals Progress at Nengasha Stadium

Plans to transform Nengasha Stadium into a modern sporting facility are beginning to take shape, with preparatory work now underway.

The Hwange Local Board said on Wednesday that its physical planners were on site carrying out re-pegging work, while architectural plans for the planned redevelopment have already been completed.

The development brings renewed attention to the long-standing plans to upgrade the stadium, which has been identified as an important sporting facility for the Hwange community.

In 2021, the Local Board said it was seeking a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to help transform Nengasha Stadium into a modern facility. The proposed upgrades at the time included improved terraces, modern dressing rooms, floodlights, a reliable water supply for the playing field and a parking area.

The Local Board also said the upgraded stadium could help Hwange attract high-profile football matches, concerts and other major events, while creating an additional source of revenue for the local authority.

The stadium has previously received improvements from Makomo Resources, which renovated the dressing rooms and constructed a perimeter fence to enable the facility to host Division One matches.

With physical planners now carrying out re-pegging and architectural plans in place, the latest development signals progress towards the long-awaited redevelopment of the facility.

For local football clubs, athletes and sports lovers, the planned upgrade could provide a better environment for sporting activities and give the town a facility capable of hosting larger events.

Further details on the project’s cost, funding, contractor, construction timeline and the full scope of the planned works are expected to provide a clearer picture of what the redevelopment will involve.
