Newly elected councillors for Wards 9, 10 and 11 in Victoria Falls Municipality were officially sworn into office on Tuesday during a ceremony held in the Council Boardroom.
The swearing-in followed the 1 August by-elections, in which ZANU-PF won all three contested wards. Residents and representatives from various political parties attended the ceremony.
The newly elected councillors are Tapiwa Sibanda for Ward 9, Thindolie Sibanda for Ward 10 and George Mhlanga for Ward 11. They took their oath of office before Victoria Falls Town Clerk Mr Ronnie Dube, pledging to faithfully serve the residents of their respective wards.
According to results announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Tapiwa Sibanda won Ward 9 with 287 votes, Thindolie Sibanda secured Ward 10 with 291 votes, while George Mhlanga was elected Ward 11 councillor after receiving 736 votes.
Addressing the councillors after they took their oath, Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Thuso Moyo reminded them that the oath they had taken was a promise to serve the people with honesty, dedication and accountability. He urged them to always put the interests of residents first and honour the trust placed in them by the electorate.
Mayor Moyo also encouraged the councillors to put political differences aside and work together to improve service delivery and promote the development of Victoria Falls for the benefit of the entire community.
The newly elected councillors are expected to undergo an induction programme before officially assuming their duties, where they will be introduced to council procedures, governance and their responsibilities as elected representatives.
