Hwange Colliery Company Limited Holdings (HCCLH) recently hosted a successful Medical Outreach Program in Mashala, a testament to its commitment to community social responsibility. On May 15, 2026, the Mashala Primary School played host to the event, which was made possible through partnerships with the National Aids Council and Lyeja FM.
The event was a resounding success, with attendees of all ages receiving consultation, treatment, and medication. A state-of-the-art ambulance and a 65-seater bus transported medical professionals, entertainers, and equipment to the venue, bringing healthcare and entertainment to the doorstep of the Mashala community.
The program featured various services, including eye and dental treatment, physiotherapy, VIAC for women, HIV testing and counseling, and mental health support. The National Aids Council educated attendees about HIV and AIDS, distributing free condoms and informative pamphlets. HCCLH nurses also conducted EPI Immunisation, ensuring the community’s health and well-being.

The event was not just about healthcare; it was also about entertainment and community engagement. Pezhuba Pachena’s traditional marimba performance and Lyeja FM’s energetic presenters, Dj. S’khokho and Sir Lex1, kept the crowd entertained with music, jokes, and competitions.

One highlight was 73-year-old Gogo Agness, who recited a humorous poem, “Mr. Spider,” showcasing the community’s rich cultural heritage. The event concluded with attendees enjoying food provided by HCCLH, a gesture of appreciation for their participation.
The HCCLH team, supported by local leaders and volunteers, ensured the event’s success. Despite a power cut, a standby generator kept the program running smoothly.

The Mashala Medical Outreach Program exemplifies HCCLH’s dedication to giving back to the community. As the team departed, they left behind a community that felt seen, heard, and valued. From a few interviews carried out the community appreciated HCCLH, National Aids Council and Lyeja FM for their dedication and hard work in serving the community of Hwange.
