The Hwange community is in mourning following the tragic death of Officer Bernard Nyika, who lost his life in a horrific accident on January 4, 2026. A commuter omnibus, branded “Nyathi,” veered off the road and overturned between Dinde and Chentali, near the Hwange tollgate.
According to initial reports from the site, twelve individuals sustained injuries in the accident, while four lost their lives on the spot. Among them was Officer Nyika, a respected member of the community known for his dedication to service and commitment to the safety of others.
His untimely passing has left a profound impact on family, friends, and colleagues, who remember him as a compassionate and engaged community figure. Officer Nyika’s contributions to public safety and his unwavering support for those around him will be sorely missed.
