The 28-year-old victim was enjoying a river island excursion with her husband, Taylor Bruce, and two friends when the incident occurred. Inspector Glory Banda, a spokesperson for the Matabeleland North police, stated that the group had arrived around 3:00 PM via speedboat, looking to relax and take photographs along the shoreline.

Upon their arrival at the island, Nyoni and her friend, Sithembokuhle Baloyi, entered the water to take pictures while Bruce and Sinodia Kambambula remained seated on the sand. As they posed for photos, a crocodile suddenly emerged, attacking Nyoni. Witnesses report that the crocodile grabbed her, threw her into the air multiple times, and dragged her into deeper waters.

In a heart-wrenching attempt to save his wife, Bruce saw Nyoni surface and tried to pull her out. However, the crocodile returned with ferocity, seizing her once more and disappearing beneath the surface. Follow the link below for updates https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vb5nhTd1CYoalBLg7m2E

The incident was promptly reported to the Binga Police, who coordinated a response with teams from Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management (ZimParks) and the Sub Aqua unit. Search efforts led investigators to discover clothing believed to belong to Nyoni, as well as pieces of flesh suspected to be hers floating in the water.

In a follow-up operation, ZimParks rangers located and killed the crocodile believed to be responsible for the attack. Body parts identified as belonging to Nyoni were later recovered from the animal’s stomach.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the community, serving as a stark reminder of the risks posed by crocodiles, especially along the Zambezi River, where human-wildlife conflict is a serious concern. Authorities are urging caution for both residents and visitors engaging in recreational activities near riverbanks and islands in crocodile-prone areas.

It is with great sadness that the community announces the passing of Brenda Nyoni, a devoted mother and wife, who left this world far too soon on December 20, 2025.

Born and raised in Hwange, Brenda had been living in Binga with her husband and their 2-year-old daughter for nearly four years. Despite facing health challenges due to a stroke she suffered in 2008-2009, she remained a resilient and loving partner and mother.
