Hwange District is witnessing a transformative moment as diaspora investments play an indispensable role in driving community development and economic growth across the region.

At the inaugural  Diaspora Investment Event held today at the Golf Club, the Acting Hwange District Development Coordinator  Simbabrashe Kayela highlighted the profound impact diaspora engagement has on the district’s progress.

Addressing an audience of diaspora members, local business leaders, community elders, and development partners, Kayela described the event as a turning point.

“This convergence is not just an event; it is a turning point for Hwange. Our diaspora represents a vital reservoir of capital, expertise, and global networks. Their investments are crucial to unlocking the potential that lies within our district,”he said.

He emphasized that the contributions of the diaspora extend far beyond finances.

“The funds and skills brought by our brothers and sisters abroad help build schools, improve healthcare facilities, and create jobs. These investments uplift families and fuel small businesses, strengthening the social and economic fabric of our communities.”

Recent data reveals that Zimbabwe’s diaspora remittances surpassed US$1 billion in the first half of 2025 alone. Many diaspora investors focus on property, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, delivering tangible benefits to local communities amid ongoing economic challenges.

Despite the challenges diaspora investors face, such as limited access to reliable information and investment risks from afar, the district is assuring  unwavering support.

“We stand ready to support you with transparent processes, clear communication, and trusted partnerships. Together, we can build an enabling environment that protects your investments and maximizes their development impact.”

“Your global experience combined with our local understanding forms the foundation for a prosperous Hwange. This is our moment to turn aspirations into real development gains,he continued .

Key partners like Amalima Loko supported the event by showcasing diverse investment opportunities designed to mobilize diaspora resources toward community-driven growth.

“Your investments are investments in our future, in the health and education of our children, and in the resilience of our district,” said Kayela.

Hwange Rural District Council, represented by Xolelani Ncube, reinforced the value of collaboration in diaspora investments.

“The diaspora community has contributed immensely towards Zimbabwe’s economy and continues to make a special impact. While Matabeleland North has always held investment forums, this one is unique—it calls on us to develop, build, and restore our community assets through robust, locally driven financing.”

The district is currently seeking funding for several key projects to improve public infrastructure and services. These include the Takazvipila ECD construction costing US$35,100, Silibinda ECD construction at US$32,000, Nyagala Primary piped water system at US$34,050, Nkandembwe Primary School at US$10,500, Kamalala Primary borehole establishment at US$10,505, and Lupote Clinic water system rehabilitation at US$39,000, among others.

With this spirit of partnership and investment, Hwange aims to accelerate its development journey in line with Vision 2030’s goals for vibrant societies, thriving economies, and ambitious nations.
